Stefan, have you enabled the Riak Clusters feature in addition to the Clusters feature? it's a little confusing but as soon as you enable the feature you should see Riak clusters appear as an option.

Let me know if you have any questions,

So are Riak clusters the only type of clusters that are available so far? I was under the impression that I could test a Rails app on a cluster. You guys need a walkthrough of what this feature even means ... it's confusing as hell as it is.

Hi Stefan,

Riak Clusters are currently the only type available with the "Clusters" feature. If you would like to set up a clustered environment for a Rails application, you should be able to do so after creating the environment. You will need to choose one of the existing configurations (Staging or Production) or "Custom". If you need further assistance, you can reach a Panda on Live Chat until 5PM PST or create a support request.

Thanks,

Evan Machnic

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for pointing out that the clusters model knowledge article wasn't making that clear. I just updated it: https://support.cloud.engineyard.com/entries/22990793-Clusters-Redefined

The preview landing page is intended to be a forward look at the ways we'll be enhancing our product over the next few quarters. We're currently working on productizing other clusters, and look forward to making those available. Does the article update clear this up, do you think, or was there another article that was confusing things?

Thanks for your feedback!

I guess that's an improvement. I wish you guys hadn't pushed this out as "Available now". Also, Tasha & Evan, you guys have provided conflicting info - can I create a Rails cluster, or no?

Hi Stefan,

Evan was referring to the historical use of cluster, i.e. a multi-instance environment, rather than the cluster model. Currently cluster is a kind of loaded word around Engine Yard, since we have this model versus your more normal App Master + App slave model that we've supported historically.

We are very excited for providing Rails applications on our new cluster model in the future, and would love feedback on your experience of our Riak cluster if you end up trying that out.

Cheers, Tasha
